The creation of digital escrow

Shieldpay was founded in 2016 with the goal of making complex payments simple and secure. Our founder, Peter Janes, saw a need to mitigate risk in transactions, and set out to solve that problem through the creation of digital escrow.

Shieldpay is incorporated and regulated; finding immediate traction across the legal, financial, and professional services industries with the help of the Barclays Accelerator programme, powered by Techstars. Shieldpay also wins RegTech Spotlight Award for Financial Crime 2017.

Shieldpay raises its Series A funding round and in July reaches the milestone of £1 billion processed through our payment platform. Shieldpay also ranks in Tempo’s Top 50 startups to work for in London 2021 (and again in 2022 and 2023). Shieldpay also processes its first class action compensation distribution, launching the Litigation Solution.

Shieldpay continues to work with customers across legal, financial and professional services and reaches the milestone of £5 billion processed through our payment platform in May 2023, winning Banking Tech Awards' Best Digital Solution Provider – PayTech 2023 and BusinessCloud Top 50 Most Innovative Fintechs in the UK 2023.
